Lisbon, Law and Tech 2023: the impact of Artificial Intelligence on banking and finance
The 5th edition of Lisbon, Law & Tech took place on 7, 8 and 9 November, dedicated to discussing the impact of AI on business sectors such as banking and financial services, the creative industries and the legal profession.
The first session focused on “The AI-Driven Transformation of Banking and Finance”. In a conversation moderated by Diogo Pereira Duarte, partner at Abreu Advogados, Benjamim Vieira, from McKinsey & Co, made it clear how important the banking sector is to the world economy: “It represents 4.4 trillion in value to the world economy” and also stated that “80 per cent of research over the next few years will be on the GenAI horizon”.
The panel also included Paulo Figueiredo, director of the first investment bank in Portugal, who created STARKDATA in 2020, which offers a software solution based on AI and machine learning for the banking and health sectors, as well as Ricardo Posser Chaves, of BPI who heads the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (CEIA), created by the bank in 2022.
