João Bravo da Costa is a Professional Partner and has been at Abreu Advogados since 2021 in the Corporate and M&A and Finance practice areas, working in several jurisdictions, with a focus on Angola, and with a strong experience in major international transactions in Africa and United Arab Emirates.

João Bravo da Costa has a professional path dedicated to the Angolan market, but also with strong legal experience in the African market and in the United Arab Emirates.

He has advised several multinationals, in restructuring and M&A operations, in international trade transactions and in foreign exchange issues, involving various sectors such as Finance, Mining and Oil & Gas, Infrastructure and Distribution. On his track record, he has several international and multi-jurisdictional investment contracts.

João Bravo da Costa is co-head of the Angolan Desk. Admitted lawyer in the Angolan and Portuguese Bar Association and is also a candidate for the New York State Bar Association.

His academic record include an LL.M. from the Fordham University School of Law in Banking Corporate and Finance Law and a postgraduate degree in Management and Corporate Law from the Faculty of Economics of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Experience

Assistance to a leading diamond mining company in the world's 3rd and 4th largest diamond mines. This assistance focused on legal advice and closing of the purchase process of shares valued at 140 million dollars, as well as corporate advice, particularly in the process of negotiation and execution of JV Agreements.

Assisted an American investing and wealth management company as to downstream oil and gas activities (trade and associated ownership issues) and the impact of the cross-sector legal framework for the Angolan jurisdiction.

Assisted an American international industrial service company and one of the world's largest oil field services companies in matters regarding Oil & Gas and non-Oil & Gas related operations.
Assistance to one of the leading universal banks in the USD 1 Billion Loan Financing Agreement with the Angolan State, as Borrower.

Currently assisting a network of clinics in a USD 93 Million Loan Financing Agreement, as Borrower, with an international financial institution as Lender, for the construction of a new Hospital in Luanda.

Assisting a Telecommunications Company in foreign exchange and international corporate matters in an ICC arbitration - valued at US$3.6 billion - where the claimant was a Portuguese Telecommunications Company subsidiary of a Brazilian Telecommunications Company.
