Abreu Advogados nominated for Financial Times Awards with two innovative projects

The legal work developed for impactMarket and the creation of the internal project “Happiness Hub” are highlighted in one of the most important international awards for innovation in the legal sector.

Abreu Advogados is doubly nominated for the FT Innovative Lawyers Europe 2022, one of the most important international awards for innovation in the legal sector. The Portuguese firm was chosen in the “Practice of Law: Market Firsts” category with the advisory work done for impactMarket, which brought together Abreu Advogados’ innovative skills and an important social purpose of fighting poverty, and is also nominated in the “People Management” category with the Happiness Hub project, a pioneering internal management and support area project, created in 2021 with the goal of monitoring the personal and professional well-being of its teams.

ImpactMarket is an anti-poverty protocol that enables the implementation of financial inclusion mechanisms, such as unconditional basic income, in vulnerable communities. Based on Blockchain technology, this protocol is managed by a decentralised, open and transparent network that supports underprivileged societies through donations, allowing donors to monitor the real impact of their donations.

Abreu Advogados’ advice was based on innovative and pioneering work that enabled the operationalisation of this project in its various areas, namely in the creation of the business model, not foreseen in Portuguese legislation, for which it was necessary to overcome regulatory obstacles, for example with regard to consumer protection in the context of blockchain and smart contracts.

The Happiness Hub, nominated in the “People Management category”, is a pioneer project in the legal sector and is guided by the principle that everyone should feel heard, recognised and integrated, in line with the most recent trends in Human Capital management.

Within the scope of this initiative, Abreu Advogados developed over the last two years several moments focused on the promotion of well-being, autonomy, independence, organisational culture, motivation, sense of belonging and teamwork, among which it is highlighted the meetings with personalities from the various sectors of the firm to debate and exchange experiences or the monthly sessions “Thank God it’s Friday”, for professional motivation with the participation of an external speaker.

Besides Abreu Advogados, the “People Management” category includes the nomination of some of the largest law firms in the world, such as Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Herbert Smith Freehills or TLT.

The Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Europe Awards are one of the most prestigious European awards in the law sector. Each year it distinguishes the most innovative law firms and projects of the continent. The awards ceremony will take place on 13 October, in London.
