Abreu Advogados joins the United Nations Climate Change initiative

Abreu Advogados joined the Climate Ambition Accelerator programme of the United Nations Global Compact, which aims to help companies fight climate change more efficiently by providing scientific support with the objective of achieving zero net emissions. Abreu Advogados is the first, and for now the only, law firm to join the programme.

The Climate Ambition Accelerator is a six-month climate change accelerator programme for companies seeking to improve their performance in establishing science-based targets and building a clear transition path towards zero net emissions. Led by the UN Global Compact, supported by Ørsted and Natura & Co and sponsored by En+ Group, the Climate Ambition Accelerator seeks to stimulate climate action by companies of all sizes, sectors and regions, helping them to develop and make relevant emissions reduction commitments.

For Inês Sequeira Mendes, Managing Partner at Abreu Advogados, “it is with great pride and great responsibility that we joined the Climate Ambition Accelerator programme, another important step towards achieving the goals established in the fight against climate change and thus contributing to better living conditions for the entire planet”.

“Since our foundation, the environment has been one of our priorities, assuming our role in society as a pioneering model for a much needed change of perspective. We are part of different national and international initiatives, we are still the only Portuguese law firm in the global B CORP movement, and we were the first law firm to periodically disclose a report with data such as our carbon footprint and some of the main indicators, thus seeking to strengthen our commitment to society”, reminds the Managing Partner.

At this moment several Portuguese companies are already part of this program, among them Águas de Portugal, Altice, CTT, Efacec, Galp, Logoplaste, NOS, Quiliban, REN, Tintex, TMG Automotive and Grupo Turbomar.
