Inês Sequeira Mendes chaired the Think Tank International debate of the W@Competition on Competition Law

Inês Sequeira Mendes, a Partner at Abreu Advogados, was the chair of one of the panels in the Iberian think tank organised by W@CompetitionIberia, an International conference that promotes the discussion of the main topics of concern for European union competition lawyers and practitioners.

The event took place on 8th May at the International Chamber of Commerce in Lisbon and had the participation of several lawyers and economists from the public and private sectors. 3 Key note speakers were involved and 4 panels were organized, with Inês moderating the panel dedicated to the digital economy and competition law, entitled “Samsons and Goliaths before the Competition Authorities”. The panel also had the participation of Beatriz de Guindos, director of the Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y de la Competencia, Catarina Toscano from Beam Suntory, Soledad Pereiras from CompassLexecon and Tânia Luísa Faria from Uria.

Other topics discussed during the event included “Fundamental rights, due process after ECN+: more certainty and less litigation?”,”Financial sector and competition: Competing after the financial crisis in the Fintech era?”, “Settlements, commitments and other termination options after ECN+: Negotiate or fight after ECN+ and the Private Enforcement Revolution”, with the keynote speakers addressing the topics on “European champions vs. real champions: what will it cost you?”, “New Antitrust for the new economy?” and “Challenges to the judiciary in the enforcement of competition rules in the digital age”.
